Now, she joyfully shares those recipes, in what may well be the first cookbook ever written by a satisfied customer rather than a cook! Inside you'll find wonderful recipes for:

The recipes in Fannie Flagg's Original Whistle Stop Cafe Cookbook are all for delicious hearty happy food that comes with all sorts of things, from gravies to hot sauces (very often the secret's in the sauce). But most of all this food, and this book, comes with love.
"If you liked her novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe, and if you liked the movie they made from that novel, you'll like this cookbook....It's funny, just like Flagg."

Flagg, author of Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Caf e (Random, 1987) and of the screenplay for the popular movie inspired by the book, admits that she is no cook--but she loves to eat. And so she has collected favorite recipes from the real cafe that was her model, The Irondale Cafe in Irondale, Alabama, run by her great-aunt for more than 50 years and still going strong. All the traditional dishes are here, from grits to barbecue to black bottom pie, along with the author's irreverent, irresistible commentary on Southern cooking and culture. Quotes from Fried Green Tomatoes and period photographs further add to Flagg's atmospheric text. Recommended for most collections.

Now beer fans everywhere can have their favorite brew and eat it too! Dating back thousands of years to ancient Babylonia, beer is the most famous and beloved thirst quencher the world has ever known. The Bible praises it, Egyptians were buried with it, our Founding Fathers depended on it, medical journals prescribe it, and Noah and the Mayflower set sail with it. Whether kegged, bottled, canned, free-flowing, or whipped into Golden Cheesecake, beer is all about friendship, laughter, and celebrating life to the fullest.

More than ten years in the making, The Ultimate Beer Lover's Cookbook is an unprecedented collection of more than 400 food and drink recipes containing beer as a main ingredient. Every genre of food is included: appetizers, breads, soups and chili, salads, fruits and vegetables, sandwiches, sauces, marinades, beef, poultry, pork, wild game, stews, fish and seafood, pasta, and desserts.

More than a decade in the making, Schlimm's mammoth culinary valentine to beer is worth the wait. Packed with over 400 recipes, each requiring at least a shot or two of suds, beer lovers will never be wanting for ideas, no matter the meal: start the day with beer-fortified pancakes and waffles; lunch on classic beer cheese soup and a salad dressed with a mixture of mayo, Dijon, horseradish, beer and hot sauce; for dinner, enjoy a thick steak seasoned in one of several beer-based marinades. All the usual suspects are here-bratwurst, , a multitude of stews and chilis, Beer Battered Shrimp, Drunken Chicken and even County Fair Corn Dogs. Schlimm stretches credibility with dishes like Deep Fried Sugar Cookies and the Squirrel Dinner for Two, but by and large his recipes are inventive and flavorful. Still, cooks will want to read his recipes carefully, as Schlimm is short on details, and doesn't include any descriptions of dishes or information on confusing ingredients (cans of consommé and Soya sauce needed for the Barbecued Flank Steak, the "browning sauce" required for Spicy Meat Turnovers). That said, Schlimm has compiled a definitive beer recipe sourcebook that will be appreciated by beer-lovers for years to come.
